350 General

The next 350 activity will center on 10/10/2010.  Details for the Saginaw Watershed will be available here by August 21, 2010.

Past activity follows:

Saginaw River Basin 350 Festival

What and Why. The Festival on 10/24/2009 was the culmination of a month long series of events that  promoted a better understanding of the science associated with the climate changes that are taking place as a result of the increased amount of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.   This will continue as a focus of education since this is the crux of the matter.

First. The most widespread activity will be of individuals educating themselves about the causes of climate disruption from materials in books and on websites. The increase of Carbon Dioxide and other green house gases in the atmosphere is a major cause of  climate changes.  Leading scientists say that the safe upper limit of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere is 350 parts per million (ppm).

Second. Citizens will continue to ask their City and County Commissioners to pass proclamations that support legislation which will roll back CO2 to 350 parts per million. This will engage the public in discussion that will lead to greater awareness about climate science and the problems of green house gases.

Third. Colleges and schools are asked to continue the discussion of climate science and energy public policy in the appropriate curricula. See http://www.350.org/people/schools

Fourth.  Individuals will ask their informal groups, service clubs and church groups to consider the issues of energy and climate change.

Fifth and Last.  All of the above actions are to encourage a large number of people to show their concern.  The hope is that this will show our elected leaders that we want Congress to deal effectively with the Energy and Climate Issue.  This will allow the USA  to positively affect the 2009  Copenhagen Climate Conference and help it chart a course for the successful limitation of CO2 to under 350ppm.
